Eurogel is a fungicide for the post harvest control of European Canker on pipfruit.
The Eurogel formulation in the form of a gel provides a medium to hold the active ingredients on the surface of leaves and stems thereby enabling penetration of leaf scars. Boric acid inhibits the maturation of fungi by preventing spore formation. Octhilinone is thought to inhibit fungal DNA/RNA synthesis.
Application
General:
Only apply post-harvest during leaf-fall or during dormancy.
Eurogel is rapidly absorbed within one hour of application so rainfall following application is not critical.
For the treatment of European Canker Neonectria galligena on pipfruit:
Canker treatment: Brush off flaking and loose bark with a wire brush or a sharp knife then paint cankered tissues liberally with undiluted Eurogel, including surrounding healthy bark. The product will be absorbed, so painting of large cankers can be repeated if necessary.
Post harvest spray:
Apply Eurogel as two post harvest leaf fall sprays to protect picking wounds from Neonectria infection. Apply Eurogel at 300-500ml/100 litres of water at a rate of 1000 litres of water /ha.
Commence first application at leaf fall followed by a reapplication to protect fresh leaf fall wounds.
Use the 500ml/100 litres of water rate on highly infected orchards.
Reduce the rate to 300ml/100 litres when maintenance sprays are required.
Do not apply Eurogel (as a spray) to crops during the fruit bearing stage of the season.
Availability
Eurogel is available in 10 litre and 20 litre containers.
